Documenting my long and complicated move from Seattle, WA to Havana, Cuba
Until only recently tattoos were not common in Cuba. Like having long hair or piercings, being tattooed somehow signaled to authorities that you were a troublemaker and inevitably led to being hassled by police. Now tattoos are much more common. Still I haven’t seen another tattoo quite like the one on this Havana-resident. “Lots of cops, no fun,” it reads.
Although near 100 years old, this yuca farmer was full of life and good humor. He said his secret was “never stop working.”
